At Llandovery market’s monthly suckler cow and calf and store cattle sale the centre record was broken for a commercial cow and calf. Top call of £5,000 was for a Charolais cross British Blue first calver with her eight- week-old Limousin cross bull calf. Consigned by G. Lewis, Gwynfe, Llangadog, the pair sold to J.A.V. Mills and Sons, Llanafan. Mr Lewis sold six first calf cows and calves to average £2,920. In all there was a 100 per cent clearance rate for the quality show forward.
Store cattle sold to a top of £1,200 for a 510kg Limousin cross steer from S.E. Williams, Bethlehem, Llangadog who also sold another at £1,100 at 450kg. Top pence per kilo was a bunch of 10-month-old 330kg Limousin steers from H.B. Morgan, Llangadog and £950 for a group of five Limousin steers nine and10 months old from T.D. Ingram. Heifers topped at £1,000 for a 420kg Limousin cross British Blue heifer from S.H. and D. Thomas, Nantycaws.
