A new centre record for an OTM cow was set at Thainstone this week. The six-year-old British Blue from Smallburn Farms, Elgin, weighed 1020kg and sold for £2,030 to Backmuir Trading, Keith, (199p/kg), and is thought to be the dearest OTM animal sold in Scotland in recent years. The previous Thainstone record was £1800 in September last year for a Belgian Blue cow from A. and J. Nairn, Clashnoir, Glenlivet.
Sale auctioneer Alan Hutcheon said: “There has been a very buoyant trade in OTM cattle and this record price underlines the strength of the live auction system. “These prices are being driven by the huge demand for quality beef cows from both the export and the home trade market.”
