The supreme and reserve beef championships went to Wales and both to Limousin sired animals. Taking the overall title was Tecwyn Jones, Conwy, North Wales with Jager Bomb, a steer weighing 654kg, by the French bull, Saphire, who was bought at the Ruthin Show Pontential sale in February from M. Jones and Son, Ruthin. He has had a tremendous season taking eight championships and six interbreed titles including champion steer at the Royal Welsh. He now goes to Agri-Expo and the Angelsey and Welsh Winter Fair where he will be sold.

In reserve and overall heifer champion was Mimmi M, by Hartsnew Crackerjack out of a British Blue cross Limousin cow, home-bred by M.L. Howatson and Son, Denbigh and shown by Glyn Howatson.  She was baby beef champion and reserve overall commercial at the Royal Welsh Show. This was only a second visit to Countryside Live for the Howatsons, who run 130 suckler cows.

Judge, Phil Sellers said they were both outstanding animals with presence and style, but he chose the steer because even at over 650kg he was all quality and just had a little more finish, length and stretch.
